The Witch Each Day
by Janet Thompson
Wiccans are really very ordinary people. We come from all walks of life. our
careers are as different as the people who hold them. Some of us try to
incorporate the Craft into our manner of making a living. Some write, some do
psychic readings, some are herbalists, some do all of this and more. But at the
same time, there are subtle differences that distinguish us from non-witches.
Most Wiccans I know have extensive libraries ranging from books on Wicca to
philosophy. Sciences, religions of all kinds, and metaphysical volumes fill our
bookshelves. Most of us are amateur historians and have a wide range of period
information. Many have particular tastes in music. Most love Celtic, classical, and
new age music, as well as having an open mind about other kinds of non-invasive
sound. |

The Old Ways
...by by Paul Huson
What is it that calls to us from all ancient things: tangled woods; mossy,
lichened stones; secret gardens like Avalon; forgotten paths and long-lost secrets?
These things possess a power which flows from their very oldness.
i would say that such experiences are the call of the Old Ways, paths of myth,
fable and legend, human dreams, your roots and mine. All ancient things partake
of this mysterious ability to stir one's soul. Jung, the depth psychologist, attributed
such feeling to the workings of the unconscious mind; anthropologists refer to them
as Numan or Mana; poets call them inspiration. Witches have a better name for
what stirs us. We call it magic. |

Lunar Crone: Dark Moon
In ancient times, the moon was revered as a goddess, and each of her
lunar phases - new moon, full moon, and dark moon - was said to
correspond to the three phases of a woman's life: maiden, mother, and
crone. The moon has long been associated with our power within, and
you do not have to be a woman to connect with the moon's power. The
dark moon, which is associated with the crone phase, appears in the
sky during the last three days of every lunar cycle. It cannot be
seen with the human eye, but it is the dark moon that presides over
the sky until a new 28-day cycle begins and a new moon is ready to
appear. Often referred to as the "dead moon," the dark moon doesn't
necessarily represent death. It is, however, a time for life-
enriching endings and a prelude to new beginnings. |
